Hello, I am Adele Tan. I am the curator of this section of the exhibition on Lin Hsin Hsin, and will be your guide on this tour of her art.
A self-described digital native and IT visionary, Lin works as an IT consultant and inventor, and is also a painter, poet, pianist and composer.
Born in Singapore, she graduated with a degree in mathematics before pursuing postgraduate studies in computer science in the United Kingdom. In her younger years, she also studied painting under senior artists Liu Kang and Cheong Soo Pieng, and received formal certification in piano and musicianship.
This exhibition focuses on Lin’s artworks from the 1970s to the 1990s. In her early works, she used traditional mediums like paper, canvas and oil paint. However, as her career progressed, she started incorporating digital artmaking techniques into her art.
Like fellow artist Jaafar Latiff, whose work you may have seen elsewhere in the exhibition, Lin found that technology provided new tools and means for artistic experimentation. But unlike Jaafar, she wrote her own computer programmes, not wanting to be restricted by the limitations of existing software in the market.
This exhibition features a digital room that acts as the “beating heart” of her artistic vision, showcasing a selection of Lin’s more recent forays into the intersection of art and the digital realm.
We invite you to immerse yourself in this world where art, music and poetry are interwoven with science and technology, and where we will also shed more light on Lin’s practice and trace the evolution of her artistic vision.
