Accessibility at the Gallery

National Gallery Singapore is committed to making our space and services accessible to all visitors.

We offer resources, access provisions, and advisories to support all visitors in planning their visit, regardless of their access needs.

Getting here

Coleman Street

The most convenient and accessible entrance to the Gallery is the Coleman Street Entrance in the City Hall Wing (pictured above). This entrance is open from 10am to12am.

Please refer to the plan your visit page for detailed directions.

The nearest MRT station is City Hall.

From City Hall station, the Art Connector on North Bridge Road is an accessible sheltered path that leads to the Gallery’s Coleman Street Entrance. To get to the Art Connector, take the lift at Exit D of City Hall MRT and make your way to Exit B, where the Art Connector begins.

Singapore’s MRT network is wheelchair-accessible, and station staff are trained to assist commuters with disabilities.

The most accessible route by bus is via the Art Connector, an accessible sheltered path that leads to the Gallery’s Coleman Street Entrance. There are two bus stops along the Art Connector. Buses that stop at these stations are:

City Hall Stn Exit B – 61,124, 145, 166, 174, 174e and 197

Aft City Hall Stn Exit B – 32, 51, 63, 63A, 80, 195, 195A, 851, 851e, 961, 961M

Taxis, cars and hydraulic vehicles may use the Coleman Street Entrance to drop off and pick up visitors. It is sheltered and has step-free access.

Three accessible parking lots are available in our carpark: one on B2, two on B3.

All accessible parking lots are located near Lift Lobby B.  The lifts are wheelchair accessible, but please note that you will need to open a heavy manual swing door to access the lift lobby.

Take the lift to Level 1. The nearest Visitor Services Counter is at the Padang Atrium.

Admission

Admission is free for visitors with disabilities and one accompanying caregiver.

However, you will need to obtain a pass to view most exhibitions. Please approach our staff at the Visitor Services Counter on Level 1 for your passes.

For more information on admission and concessions, go to the Visitor Information page.

During your visit

All exhibition spaces at the Gallery are wheelchair accessible. Lifts also serve all floors of the Gallery.

Here are some key amenities that the Gallery provides for visitors. Approach our staff should you need any assistance during your visit.

Visitor Services Counters

These are located at:

  • Coleman Street Entrance, Level 1,
  • Padang Entrance, Level 1, and
  • B1, near the Padang Atrium

Restrooms

Accessible toilets are mostly located in the City Hall Wing, and on every level except Level 6.

Most accessible toilets have automated sliding doors operated by a button near the entrance. Accessible toilets with manual swing doors are located on B1 of the City Hall Wing, and Level 4M of the Supreme Court Wing.

Please note that you will need to open a heavy manual swing door to get to the accessible toilets on Level 2, 3 and 4 of the City Hall Wing.

All accessible toilets have an emergency button located below the handrail.

Drinking fountains

Drinking fountains are located next to the toilets on most floors. These are only for bottle refills.

Baby changing rooms

The Gallery has baby changing rooms which are equipped with hot and cold water, as well as a seat. The locations are noted on the floorplans. Please note that the baby changing rooms have step-free access but are not wheelchair accessible.

Lifts

Lift Lobbies A and B are located at the two ends of the City Hall Wing. Both lift lobbies are wide enough for most wheelchairs and mobility aids.

Manual wheelchair loans

Wheelchairs are available for loan at all our Visitor Services Counters. They are free of charge and loaned on a first come, first served basis.

Unfortunately, Gallery staff cannot personally assist wheelchair users to get around the building.

The Calm Room is a dedicated space where visitors can rest if they are feeling over-stimulated or overwhelmed by their environment. Please refer to the Calm Room page for more information.

Manual and motorised wheelchair users are welcome at the Gallery.

  • All exhibition spaces at the Gallery are wheelchair-accessible and all floors are also accessible via lifts.

  • Do note that there are no charging points for motorised wheelchairs within the Gallery.

  • Due to safety reasons, not all personal mobility aids (PMAs) are suitable for use within our gallery spaces.

  • PMAs that fulfil the following requirements may be used within the Gallery:

    • Dimensions do not exceed 120cm in length, 70cm in width and 150cm in height

    • Maximum of 300kg in laden weight

    • Maximum device speed of 10km/h

  • If a space is not accessible to PMAs, we will post an advisory.

  • Use the lockers located near Lift Lobby B, B1 to store loose or bulky items.

The Gallery welcomes all types of assistance dogs and their handlers.

Visitors with assistance dogs are encouraged to email the Gallery two days in advance so we can assist with planning your visit.

The Gallery has signed a pledge with K9Assistance, a charity that promotes the acceptance and use of Assistance Dogs for Persons with Disabilities, to be an Assistance-Dog friendly organisation. Please refer to K9Assistance's website for more information.

The Gallery is now an official Dementia Go-To Point.

To ensure a dementia-friendly environment, we work with the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) to ensure our staff and volunteers have essential knowledge about dementia, and know how they can help when someone is in need.

Please refer to AIC’s website for more information.

If your group requires additional access provisions, such as Singapore Sign Language interpretation, please email the Community & Access team at least six weeks before your visit.

The Gallery Social Stories are guides with photos and text which show what a typical visit to the Gallery is like. These stories describe how visitors can enter the Gallery, what they can expect to see, and where to go if they are feeling overwhelmed.

You may either view them online in your browser or download them and print a physical copy.
