Rudolfo Nolli was born into a family of sculptors and artists, and he followed his uncle to the East at the age of 19 where he began a remarkable career. Before relocating to Singapore in 1921, he spent eight years completing commissions for the Thai royal court. Apart from the City Hall and former Supreme Court buildings, Nolli was responsible for numerous other commissions in Singapore during the 1920s and 30s. You will see some of these buildings on your screen now in the Learn More section at the bottom of the main stop screen. Key commissions include the Fullerton Building façade, the cast iron lamps and lion reliefs of Elgin Bridge, and the now-demolished Ocean Building façade. Many of these buildings are located near the Gallery, if you would like to take a look at them after your visit. Many of the pillars in the building today were designed or built by Nolli. See if you can spot his signature style as you walk through the spaces in the building.
