It brings back memories of our school days! 🤩 Thanks to the generosity of nationalgallerysingapore , two groups of our resident-artisans recently embarked on a docent-led tour as part of the Gallery Wonders programme, presented by Deutsche Bank. The tour highlighted the stunning architecture and rich history of the former Supreme Court and City Hall buildings. Our residents marveled at the original artworks of Lim Tze Peng, a remarkable 103-year-old Singaporean artist whose legacy continues to inspire generations.🎨🖌 "I’ve learned so much and even picked up techniques I can use in my own artwork! “The spaces in between are as important as the things themselves, like the spaces between musical notes. Without them it would’ve been chaos. There are things in the physical world that we can’t see but are important, like pulse.” - Kim Lim Yesterday’s visit to National Gallery Singapore was exactly the experience I needed to wrap up my trip. I got to explore remarkable works by artists like Teo Eng Seng and Kim Lim, and I owe a big thank you to Kak Ibam for making it happen. I even felt like a true local, having the chance to visit every exhibit this time around (unlike my last trip, where I didn’t get the all-access pass). Although I’m not really an “art person” and sometimes feel out of place in the art world, there’s something about being surrounded by art that always moves me in ways I can’t fully explain. This is why, every time I leave my city, museums and exhibitions are always my go-to destinations—to feel that indescribable “something” I’m always longing for. I still can’t put a name to it; it’s like a part of me is being fulfilled in a way I don’t fully understand. But it’s a feeling I know I’ll always seek out wherever I go, 🖤

About the artist

Lim Tze Peng (b. 1921, Singapore) is Singapore’s oldest living and active artist. Lim occupies a unique position in Singapore’s art history due to his persistent innovation in ink painting and calligraphy, and his ability to infuse contemporary relevance into ancient practices. Lim was a member of various art groups who made art expeditions around Singapore, Southeast Asia, and beyond, and he produced numerous paintings and sketches from their travels. In 2003, Lim received the Cultural Medallion, Singapore’s highest arts accolade.
