One of the most innovative practitioners working in the medium of ink today, Tan Oe Pang joins Assistant Curator Teo Hui Min to discuss the artistic concepts expressed through his work, the essential qualities of art and the dialogue between Western and Eastern aesthetics.

Tan Oe Pang (b. 1947, Singapore) is lauded for his use of ink and for his bold translation of Chinese art aesthetics across styles and mediums. Trained under ink artist Fan Chang Tien, he quickly went on to develop his own artistic language in pursuit of new methods of art making. A versatile artist, Tan's practice ranges calligraphy, figurative and abstract compositions in ink, works on oil on canvas, and even aluminium. Tan was also fundamental in creating the syllabus for art education in Singapore, introducing students to key artists and art movements.
