Syafiq Halid - Realm Aku (Jul - Sep 2022)
Inspired by the Gallery’s Ever Present and Familiar Others exhibitions, Realm Aku (My Realm) by Syafiq Halid drew on the idea of The Dreaming. Syafiq manifested the traditions of the past to invoke imagined futures—a dwelling of possibilities between the people of this land and its sounds. Over three months, Syafiq reimagined how traditions within the Malay performing arts are viewed within the community and by others today. He also explored the ways that contemporary Malay performing arts practitioners can help to preserve, enhance and reconstruct these traditions in the 21st century.
