Roving Art Truck

From parks to neighbourhoods, the Roving Art Truck has been bringing the Gallery’s Collection to the public since 2022, complete with interactive art activities.

The Roving Art Truck celebrated National Day at Gardens by the Bay National Day Concert. Visitors explored artworks from the National Collection by Singaporean artists and participated in free hands-on activities.

Beep Beep! The Roving Art Truck popped up at Gardens by the Bay Children’s Festival, delighting families and children with the National Collection and art activity inspired by nature.

13–15 Sep and 20–22 Sep 2024 | 6.30pm–10pm

Visitors explored fascinating artworks from the National Collection and joined in free activities for some family fun. Inspired by Georgette Chen’s Still Life (Moon Festival Table), visitors created their own masterpiece using mooncake stamps to decorate their very own paper fan.

A Stroll in the Painting

A Stroll in the Painting

A Stroll in the Painting is an installation by Yip Yew Chong. The artist was inspired by the artworks of Cheong Soo Pieng, one of the most influential Singapore artists of his generation.

Join us and discover scenes of Southeast Asia from the 1960s and 1970s that inspired Cheong Soo Pieng. Use your imagination to create your own stories and take part in our fun drawing activities!

Presented in partnership with Frasers Property Singapore, the travelling art installation was displayed in the following malls:

Forest Explorer

Forest Explorer

Learn about sustainability at National Gallery Singapore’s art pop-up! Make your own cardboard creation, add it to the installation and watch the forest grow.

Held in conjunction with the Gallery Children’s Biennale 2023, this immersive artwork by Gatot Indrajati invites visitors to learn about the importance of protecting our forests.

Explore the Art Cart to learn more about the artwork that the installation was based on – Forest Fire by Raden Saleh.

The River that Grew a Nation

Inspired by artworks from the collection of National Gallery Singapore that feature the Singapore River, Michael Ng created this installation to celebrate the river and the people who were crucial to the success of modern Singapore. A continuation of his whimsical “static motion” series, in which he creates elated and exaggerated characters and scenes,

The River that Grew a Nation is a mashup of the Singapore River—portrayed as a dragon—and the iconic bumboat.

It Takes A Village

It Takes A Village

Designed by illustrator Priscilla Tey, the immersive installation invites audiences to explore whimsical depictions of Singapore’s urban landscape and folktales. This cardboard neighbourhood of familiar buildings, furniture, flora and fauna holds scenes that collectively paint a picture of life in this tropical city.

Celebrating Our Life Stories

In response to artworks from the Collection, elders from St Luke’s ElderCare Senior Care Centre @ Marine Parade were led by community artist Joanne Lio over 8 weeks to produce artworks responding to the theme of “Telling My Lifestory”.

One Moon, Two Worlds

One Moon, Two Worlds

Responding to Liu Kuo-sung: Experimentation as Method, One Moon, Two Worlds was co-created by students from Boon Lay Secondary School, Methodist Girls’ School, Westwood Secondary School and seniors from MWS Wesley Active Ageing Centre – Jalan Berseh through workshops facilitated by artist, Veronyka Lau.

Participants were invited to engage in a journey of connecting with themselves and others via experimental art-making processes and dialogues celebrating stories across generations. This activity helped to foster wellness through intergenerational bonding and bridging the young with the young-at-heart.
