National Gallery Singapore presents Angin Cloud by Art Labor, a multistorey installation within the Padang Atrium, as part of the Gallery’s 2025 OUTBOUND series. Angin Cloud by Art Labor transforms the space into an imaginative re-creation of Vietnam’s Central Highlands.

The artwork draws visitors into a sensory journey with suspended pillars inspired by wooden and cement structures used in peppercorn farming, Jrai sculptures displayed at street level, and Vietnamese hammocks in the basement offering a restful moment for visitors to take in the view.

Angin Cloud is the third phase in Art Labor’s decade-long collaboration with the Jrai community, following Jrai Dew and JUA. Rooted in the Jrai concept of “Angin”, which symbolises the forces of nature that drive transformation, like air and water, the installation reflects the inevitable and dynamic nature of change. Through this lens, it explores the complex relationship between economic development and its transformative impact on both land and people, inviting visitors to reflect on the interplay between nature, progress, and adaptation.

This is the first joint commission by OUTBOUND and Light to Night Singapore 2025[1] at National Gallery Singapore.
