Scope and Content
in alias: Chen Chong Swee was fond of using 磑 in alias which he used in late 1920s and 1930s, and which he romanised as Chen Khai. Unfornately, it is actually pronounced as “wei”, although 鎧,凱,愷 (all “kai”) and 磑 (wei) share the same right radical 豈. Top left two very faded photos, one with inscription: “阿磑在友中「友聯中學」” Translation: “Ah ‘Kai’ at Youlian High School (Swatow)” Lower left: dark jacketed, early 1930s Lower left : bespectacled, late 1920s Lower middle: inscription “一九二八年磑在 星洲時照“ Translation: “1928 ‘Kai’ photographed in Singapore” Lower right: Chen Chong Swee in 1960s or 1970s Middle right, Chen Chong Swee at his desk, 1931, Singapore.
