This audio experience seeks to explore the ephemeral nature of Paik’s work. Inspired by his robot works, the performance intersperses sounds from the exhibits with voices culled from interviews or imagined reservoirs.

Lynn Lu and Melinda Lauw will perform a piece that incorporates gestural synchronicities and serendipitous occurrences that connect them to the participants of their previous piece Raisins in the Audience Dough (2nd movement), as well as to Paik and Moorman’s capers across time and space.

[EVENT IS OVER] Catch up on the lecture here. Nam June Paik is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century and a key figure in the avant-garde movements of that time. He is best known for his pioneering work in the use of the electronic moving image in art, but his experimental spirit resulted in him producing work in a variety of artistic genres, including sculpture, music and performance, and live broadcasting. Join exhibition co-curators Rudolf Frieling and Sook-Kyung Lee as they trace Paik’s legacy by delving into some of his key works.

Nam June Paik: The Future is Now is the first major retrospective of visionary artist Nam June Paik in Southeast Asia, tracing five decades of his ground-breaking work in the use of television and video in art. Making its last stop here at National Gallery Singapore, this international exhibition has travelled to Tate Modern, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Bringing together the curators of the touring exhibition from across the globe, this curatorial roundtable reveals the curatorial decisions, processes and collaborative experiences behind the exhibition, from its ideation to execution.

Learn how to use various tools in video-making—from the fundamental “hacking” of a video or image file, to the latest deep fake applications—from local artist Lim Shengen. Discover what it means to use such tools of programming and coding as methods of production, and as a way of thinking in art-making.

Explore the theme of boredom and its associated aesthetic experience in relation to Paik’s works. We will look at some written texts, including Paik’s written reflections on the relationship between time, space, and sound, in connection to Symphony No. 5 and Zen for Film, two works featured in the exhibition.

12 students from the Diploma in Dance course at LASALLE College of the Arts respond to selected artworks in the exhibition. Their performances will explore issues regarding the immediacy of communication and how various media amplifies, complicates or obscures this process.
