Volunteering at the Gallery

Volunteers play an essential role in engaging and inspiring our visitors. We invite passionate people from all walks of life to connect with other art enthusiasts, and to make a meaningful impact on the community.

Why volunteer at the Gallery?

Our volunteers contribute time and skills in various roles, such as guiding tours, assisting with our activities, and events, working with underserved communities, and more.

Through our Best Friends of the Gallery (BFG) volunteer programme, you will:

  • Make direct and meaningful impact
  • Build bridges with underserved communities
  • Connect and build friendships with fellow volunteers
  • Learn about National Gallery Singapore’s collections and exhibitions
  • Explore opportunities for learning and skill development
  • Interact with the Gallery’s curators and programmers
  • Gain access to volunteer-only exhibition tours and activities

Our volunteering opportunities

We offer various roles, with major recruitments taking place ahead of our festivals.

Docents share about art as storytellers, introducing the Gallery and its collection to visitors and inspiring a greater appreciation of art.

We have currently closed recruitment for new docents until further notice and encourage you to try for our other volunteering roles.

Individual volunteers are involved in assisting visitors with wayfinding, and/or providing logistical support for programmes and festivals. They may also choose to perform behind-the-scenes assignments, such as the archiving or transcribing of the Gallery’s collections and exhibitions.

Individual volunteers with sufficient experience may also have opportunity to receive training for specialised roles that facilitate community group visits.

Individual volunteer recruitment is conducted on an ad hoc basis, with major recruitments taking place ahead of our festivals.

The Gallery collaborates with partner organisations to engage the public and underserved communities in events and activities.
