Rapture is an artwork that consists of eight life-sized human figure wire sculptures. Drawing inspiration from the biblical notion of rapture—the act of ascending to a realm beyond our own—the sculptures represent the transition from the earthly to the spiritual, symbolising a surrender to the divine. This work is a testament to the enduring nature of the human spirit, its capacity for transcendence and the unwavering belief that there is a brighter, more compassionate reality awaiting us beyond the horizon.
One part of the installation is located on the steps of the Padang Atrium, which is not accessible by wheelchair.
Victor Tan is a practicing sculptor and is known for his unusual and persistent choice of medium: wire. Coupled with his unique techniques, he investigates existential ideas about humanity, the isolation of the human emotions in the moment and the passage of time and life. To him, sculpture is a way of exploring and experiencing the constant change and movement around him. For Tan, each change, movement or experience represents a new possibility.
