Registration
A casual platform for art advocacy, Artsplaining introduces and fosters art appreciation by engaging individuals from various industries and backgrounds who may not have direct ties to the arts, thus establishing relatability and connections between the arts and non-arts worlds.
Through thoughtful conversations and witty interpretations, our featured guests reflect on how the works in the Gallery relate to different industries and non-art spheres. Equal parts offbeat and accessible, this programme is perfect for anyone keen to discover more about the visual arts!
Artsplaining: Let’s talk sustainable textiles!
In this collaboration between the renowned Vintagewknd and curator Lim Qinyi, we delve into our special exhibition Tropical, shedding light on art in Southeast Asia and Latin America. We discover how these regions have influenced not only artistic expressions but also sustainable practices in the world of everyday fashion. Unravel the stories behind the brushstrokes and the stitches, and learn how art and textiles are both powerful catalysts of revolutionary change.
Vintagewknd, founded by Eileen and Eden in 2015, is Singapore's leading sustainable vintage store. Specialising in transforming textile waste, they create unique, on-trend garments, rehoming over 50 tonnes of waste.
Qinyi Lim is Curator at National Gallery Singapore. She completed the de Appel Curatorial Programme, Amsterdam in 2012. Her research interests include looking at the pluralistic and gendered vocabularies that inform the way we define hierarchies, labour and the production of art.
