Join Professor Eugene Wang from Harvard University as he shares more about the inner logic and developmental scheme underscoring ink master Liu Kuo-sung’s expansive inkscape, and how his art is ultimately about transcendence. The lecture will be followed by a conversation with Liu Kuo-sung himself, moderated by Dr Cai Heng, Senior Curator at National Gallery Singapore.
*The lecture will be delivered in English and the conversation will be conducted in Mandarin with simultaneous interpretation (Mandarin to English and English to Mandarin) available on site.

Eugene Y. Wang is the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Professor of Asian Art at Harvard University. A Guggenheim Fellow, he is the art history editor of the Encyclopedia of Buddhism. His publications range from early to modern and contemporary Chinese art. He is the recipient of the Sakamoto Nichijin Academic Award from Japan for his Shaping the Lotus Sutra: Buddhist Visual Culture in Medieval China. He is the founding director of Harvard CAMLab that explores sensorial-experiential staging of Asian cultural heritages.
Liu Kuo-sung is a pioneering figure in modern ink painting. Liu was a founding member of the Fifth Moon Group, which made significant contributions to Taiwan’s avant-garde movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Liu has devoted his artistic career to exploring and advocating the modernisation of Chinese ink painting through his ink practice and writings on art. His influence has extended beyond Taiwan to other parts of Asia, making him one of the most prominent Asian ink artists on the international art scene.
