Raisins in the Audience Dough: Second Movement
In conjunction with our special exhibition Nam June Paik: The Future Is Now, the second movement of this three-part project will see artists Lynn Lu and Melinda Lauw present an in situ, participatory performance within the Gallery’s public spaces. 56 participants will be individually guided through a series of sequences designed by the artists. This movement draws from scores Paik wrote specifically for long-time collaborator Charlotte Moorman, and their shared interest in inclusivity and encouraging audiences’ active participation. It also references Paik’s prophetic conflations of tech and the body, and signature “salt and pepper” strategy of injecting a surprise into the otherwise banal.
Lynn Lu is a Singaporean artist, educator, and curator based between London and Singapore. Her multidisciplinary practice revolves around participation and collaboration, context, site specificity, and the poetics of absurdity. Lu exhibits, performs, and lectures extensively throughout Asia, Oceania, Europe, and the Americas. Recent showcases of her work include Palais de Tokyo, The Barbican, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, Tate Modern, Science Gallery London to name a few. She trained at Carnegie Mellon University, San Francisco Art Institute and Musashino Art University in Tokyo, and holds a PhD from the University of Newcastle in Australia.
