Unfolding through various materials, including found objects, clay and sand, Fazleen Karlan’s latest work d3ar succ3ss0r at the Community Wall posits a speculative examination of remnants from our present by individuals from the future.
The practice of Fazleen Karlan lies at the intersections of artmaking and archaeological methods. Drawn to overlooked histories, changing physical landscapes and the rise of digital cultures, Fazleen often reassembles fragments of materials from different time frames to construct personal and societal realities. In 2021, Fazleen’s works were presented at exhibitions, including Between the Living and the Archive and Pivot Point, both at Gillman Barracks. She also participated in Time Passes, National Gallery Singapore (2020-21). Fazleen is currently a Post-Excavation Technician with the Archaeology Unit at the Temasek History Research Centre, ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute.
