Gallery Mix presents Syndicate Sessions – Anise X Sonia Kwek
In collaboration with Syndicate, Gallery Mix presents an evening of pop performances where artists explore the delicate balance between the abstract and the perceptible. Discover and appreciate the diverse forms of sound and dance that arise from interdisciplinary collaborations between artists, who each have their own unique approaches to music and movement, from the experimental to the popular.
Spotlights will be used on stage.
Characterised by an entropic, cinematic blend of harsh glitchy beats cutting through delicate, shimmering vocals, Anise's new sonic palette blurs the grotesque and beautiful. Resisting the conventions of genre, she weaves operatic vox, spoken word, field recordings and chamber music with electronic rhythm. Navigating her own queerness and femininity, her lyrics speak of alienation and isolation but also of healing and reparation.
Sonia Kwek is an artist and performer. Her practice centres on exploring the body as material/ the materiality of the body, with an interest in corporeal sensualities and the potency of kinesics. She works through performance, movement, live art, moving image and installation; sometimes creates experiential experiments with participatory and perishable elements; and often collaborates with others in interdisciplinary projects across all types of spaces. Concerned with the unseen, unspoken and in-between, Kwek seeks to shape space-time for intimate encounters and visceral experiences, to express the ineffable and offer alternative perspectives.
